About Us

In early 2006, some 30 residents who care deeply about the future of Marin General came together. Our mission was to identify and support the best candidates for the November 2006 election. There were three vacancies on the board which would guide the future of the hospital as it transitioned from Sutter management to an independent district hospital. As required, the Alliance registered with the Fair Political Practices Commission.

Two candidates, Dr. Larry Bedard and Dr. Jamie Clever accepted the challenge to run as a slate for two of the vacant director positions. We raised about $140,000 in campaign funds to support their candidacy.

Drs. Bedard and Clever ran a spirited, effective, and positive campaign which stressed their medical experience -- Vote for the Doctors. This focus was successful since our candidates ended up in the top two positions in a field of eight candidates.

Between them, the Alliance candidates got more than 60% of the vote. This was a gratifying victory, especially in view of the negative campaigning in the last few days prior to the election. Clearly the electorate wants District Board members who are knowledgeable about the issues, who exhibit strong leadership qualities and resist the attacks and smear tactics of the past.
