Dear Friends and Community Members,
I was educated at Stanford, both undergraduate and medical schools. After medical school I interned at the King County Hospital in Seattle and returned to Stanford for five years of training in internal medicine, the final year as chief resident. During medical school I married Linda Hawes Clever, who also became a physician as did our daughter Sarah who is on the faculty at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. I came to Marin in 1968 to serve two years at Hamilton Air Force Base as a Major, Chief of Medicine and Chief of Hospital Services. From 1970 to 2005 I was in independent private practice of Internal Medicine in San Francisco. I cared for my patients in the office, in the hospital, in nursing homes and at home. I was their advocate, guiding them through the health care maze. Also I taught students and residents at UC San Francisco Medical School (as a volunteer faculty member) and at community hospitals. I have experience working constructively with challenging patients, and I stuck it out with them. During the mid-1980s, I was Chief of Staff at Pacific Presbyterian Medical Center for three years. As the leader of the doctors of the medical center, I was responsible for assuring the hospital board, and thereby the public, that we gave high quality care to the patients. I have served on numerous non-profit boards of directors, often as an officer. These have included the Stanford Medical Alumni Association (9 years), Visiting Nurse Association of San Francisco (6 years), The Redwoods Retirement Community (on which I currently serve, now a total of 11 years), Northern California Presbyterian Homes and Services, parent of the Tamalpais (12 years), and Community Church of Mill Valley (12 years). I also serve on the Administrative Council of the Clinical Faculty Association of UC San Francisco Medical School (the volunteer faculty). Marin General Hospital is facing a critical time and opportunity as it makes the transition back to community responsibility. The District Board must:
Sutter is becoming a competitor with MGH. At this time the community most needs the experience and leadership that I will provide. I will honor you vote. Thank you for your support. Jamie Clever
